In Karen, Nairobi, the client had a swimming pool that had remained unused for years due to significant leakage issues. The primary concern was a major crack on the floor slab, at the point it starts to slope torwards the deep end, which caused continuous water leakage. The client had previously engaged a contractor, but the attempted repairs failed to resolve the problem.

Mau West was brought in to diagnose the root cause of the leaks and implement a long-term waterproofing solution. The goal was to restore the pool’s structural integrity and ensure a watertight, durable finish that would allow the client to use the pool worry-free.

What we did

Working closely with a structural engineer, our team executed a step-by-step waterproofing process:

  1. Crack Repair & Structural Reinforcement
    • Added a fiber-reinforced concrete layer, mixed with Penetron Admix, to strengthen the pool’s floor.
    • Removed the ineffective cement-sand screed applied by the previous contractor.
  2. Masonry Wall Reinforcement
    • Applied a reinforced concrete plaster, also mixed with Penetron Admix, to create a strong and water-resistant surface.
  3. Pipe Joint Sealing
    • Used Penecrete waterproof mortar to seal all pipe joints on both the floor and walls—a crucial step to prevent leaks at vulnerable points.
  4. Waterproofing Application
    • Applied Duraflex waterproofing membrane (a two-part system) to both the floor and walls, ensuring complete protection against water infiltration.
  5. Leak Testing
    • Conducted rigorous testing to confirm the pool was fully watertight before proceeding to the final stage.
  6. Finishing & Aesthetics
    • Installed high-quality tiles, giving the pool a refreshed, modern look while ensuring long-term durability.
